Discover the 7 dazzling beauty looks from the Oscars that took our breath away.
The 95th Academy Awards took place in Los Angeles on Sunday night, and Hollywood’s A-list was out in full force. From Cara Delevingne and Michelle Yeoh to Nicole Kidman and Austin Butler, stars took to the champagne carpet for the year’s biggest awards show. In an interesting twist this year, the Academy opted to forgo a traditional bold red runway in favour of a natural-hued hue, debuted by host Jimmy Kimmel as the “champagne carpet.” And so it was as the big stars of the movie world took it upon themselves to match to perfection, with their beauty looks resplendent. Being considered the most formal awards show of all, the 2023 Oscar beauty looks did not disappoint and lived up to the glamour of old Hollywood.
As for makeup, pink nude shades had a moment, but red lips also added a touch of classic movie star beauty, as seen in Lady Gaga or Michelle Williams. With Veronica Lake-inspired waves designed by hair professional Renato Campora, Jessica Chastain paired her incredible hairstyle with a ruby-red lip colour. Sculptural updos were also in the spotlight! Florence Pugh has officially crowned the queen of the artistic updo with an elegant micro-fringe, Vanessa Hudgens wore a smooth updo with a black bow, and Ashley Graham was once again sublimating a hair trend with a polished chignon with an overlay of tiny braids.
The Oscars are always the culmination of the stars’ evolving glamour throughout the awards season, and now that Hollywood is back in full force. Check out the best beauty looks from the Oscars 2023 below.
LADY GAGA
While we love the sheer yet sculptural Versace gown Lady Gaga wore to the 2023 Oscars ceremony, her ultra glamorous makeup look was the real hit of the awards show. The star channelled three of this year’s top makeup trends in one, including a glamorous smoky eye, a subtle blush that covered the high points of her cheeks and a bold red lip that served as one of the only pops of colour in a monochromatic look.
VANESSA HUDGENS
Vanessa Hudgens stole the show with her arrival on the champagne carpet. Her hair was styled in an elegant bow bun at the back of her head by celebrity hairstylist Danielle Priano. To tie a Coco-style bow, Priano used SexyHair products to create a sculpted bow hairstyle. “Vanessa’s dress has a vintage feel to it, so we wanted to make sure her hair had the same essence. Hair slicked back with a velvet ribbon will always be a classic, we’ve seen it on the carpet for decades!” expressed Priano. Her makeup featured a soft, smoky eye and a pink lips. It was by celebrity makeup artist Tonya Brewer.
JANELLE MONAE
Cornrows and cat-eye go hand in hand for an elegant appeal. The braids were interwoven with silver thread to add glamour and showcase Janelle Monae’s beautiful face.
RIHANNA
Rihanna wore the biggest trend of the night: red lipstick. She looked stunning on the “champagne” carpet as she wore a creamy, satin red lipstick (by Fenty Beauty, of course) with red nails and a loose top knot. “We wanted to create a monochromatic makeup look with a maple-red lip and highlight, punctuated by strong black eyeliner, to echo the structure of Rihanna’s gown,” Priscilla Ono, the celebrity makeup artist behind the look said.
FLORENCE PUGH
With a gown this vibrant, beauty needs to take a more subtle approach. What we love about this Florence Pugh look is that her “ponytail into bangs” paired perfectly with her Valentino Couture gown. Her glowy makeup was painted on by Alex Babsky using Valentino Beauty products, and her nails were by Dawn Sterling.
ASHLEY GRAHAM
Ashley Graham had a gorgeous Oscars beauty moment with her intricate hairstyle. She had all eyes on her tresses by keeping makeup simple yet sultry with her 90s-inspired matte brown smokey eyes. Celebrity hairstylist Mashal Afzalzada created the look using Living Proof, while her makeup was by celebrity makeup artist Ivan Nunez using Revlon products. She also wore a chrome French manicure. Perfection.
CARA DELEVINGNE
The perfect complement to the actress and model’s custom Elie Saab gown was a sleek chignon and pops of berry-pink eyeshadow and lipstick. She opted for a tonal dusky rouge palette to carry over onto her eyeshadow and lip.
