Which beauty trends will we be wearing next summer, from bowcore to glazed skin?
All eyes are inevitably drawn to the clothing at Haute Couture Week. They are, after all, the fundamental reason why the fashion industry rushes to Paris during that fateful week. With these stunning costumes taking centre stage, you’d think that any beauty accessories that accompany these atelier-made ensembles exist solely to complement their sartorial counterparts.
Even if they undoubtedly do that, the hair and makeup we witness on the couture runways also communicate stories of their own. Haute couture beauty had a significant part in 2024, with designs ranging from the most outrageous, dramatic statement looks to the most understated, au natural appearances.
Diamonds and other stones resembling lipstick and makeup adorned faces at Simone Rocha’s Jean Paul Gaultier presentation, expressing a strong, feminine strength that matched her rose-coloured collection. Bleached eyebrows and slicked back hair on Daniel Roseberry’s Schiaparelli runway contributed to his concept of man vs machine, extraterrestrial meets mankind, with hair and cosmetics serving as both a backdrop for the fashion to shine and an integral element of the narrative.
You can witness the most captivating and inspiring hair and makeup looks straight from the couture catwalks. These looks offer a visual feast, whether capturing a dreamlike essence or showcasing an elevated take on classic beauty.
Get ready to be inspired and amazed by the creativity and artistry exhibited on the runways of Haute Couture Fashion Week.
MAISON MARGIELA
Maison Margiela’s makeup resembled textural oil paintings, incorporating the popular glass skin trend. Each model’s face looked moonlit and reflective, while Vaudeville-style skinny brows added a turn-of-the-century touch.
SCHIAPARELLI
Yet another captivating beauty element that caught our attention during haute couture week was the revived affection for rhinestones. Among the standout collections was Schiaparelli’s, where Pat McGrath and her team introduced the instantly iconic crystal ear. McGrath’s influence extended to the bleached brow aesthetic and radiant skin, notably achieved using the Sublime Skin Highlighter in Nude Opal, a newly introduced limited-edition shade.
SIMONE ROHA for JEAN PAUL GAULTIER
Jean Paul Gaultier, under designer Simone Rocha, featured bare faces adorned with silver leaf-like crystals around the eyes, creating a dramatic and unique look. Crystal embellishments on the lips further emphasised Rocha’s signature accessory-focused aesthetic.
DIOR
Dior opted for braids and bows, with hairstylist Guido Palau twisting braids into a wide bun shape and accentuating them with black velvet ribbons.
Fendi showcased sleek updos and fresh-faced models, highlighting natural features and reflecting the understated nature of the garments.
CHANEL
At Chanel, black bows were also a prominent feature, adorning glossy low ponytails and half-up hairdos with loose waves, adding a touch of elegance and femininity.
VALENTINO
Valentino embraced a revolutionary seasonal trend with deep vampy lipstick, paired with edgy wet-look slicked-back low buns.
